Happy New Year! It’s 2018, it’s a bit cold and grey, you probably don’t feel like getting out of bed, never mind hosting a dinner party. We have put together a list of the top 5 most viewed recipes on The Edible Flower website to inspire you to dust off your wooden spoon.
5. Nectarine and Sweet Geranium Tart (Gluten Free)
This yummy tart has made it onto the top 5 most viewed recipes because it’s delicious, quick to make and a sophisticated pud. I love making it to serve with afternoon coffee or as a summery dessert.
This tart is easily adapted to suit most soft fruits, whatever’s in season. I make a Gluten Free version, but if you aren’t worried about wheat you can make it with plain flour too.
This year I made an apricot version of for Assembly Gatherings in June, it was seasonal and there is something lovely about using the sweet geranium grown in our garden. I hope you enjoy, maybe with a wee dollop of cream.
4. Spicy Thai Pork Lettuce Wraps
I’m not all surprised that these are number 4 on the list. The pork wraps are full of flavour, versatile, fresh and once you have the ingredients, quick to put together.
I wrote up this recipe in March when doing a cooking demo with The Curious Farmer, on cooking the whole pig. Three on a plate with plenty of fresh herbs makes a colourful starter, or have all the ingredients out separately and allow your guest to make their own.
3. Malteser Buns
Staple of the Northern Irish school fete, not The Edible Flower’s typical fare, but we certainly never turn our nose up at a good tray bake.
The fact that the Malteaser Bun has made it into the top 5 is probably down to friends and work colleagues in London, who have not grown up with this wee Irish treat. I am getting the urge to go and whip up a batch to sweeten up this cold January day.
2. Pink Pickled Onions
One of my absolute favourites definitely deserves to be number 2 on the list, everyone needs more pickling in their life. I make this up in batches and use them all the time as a sweet, sharp and crunchy addition. Apart from the fact that I love pickled onions these ones come out neon pink so look fab whatever you are serving them with.
Why not pair with the Spicy Pork Lettuce Wraps for a really flavourful and truly colourful canape.
1.Roasted Butternut Squash, Kale and Feta Quiche
And in number 1 spot we have the perfect antidote to the Winter blues. After potentially eating a lot of beige food in December the bright orange of the squash and dark green of the curly kale should brighten up the short days.
Sweet, salty, comforting and fresh I can’t think of a better way to finish off our list of most viewed recipes in 2017.
We have lots more delicious recipes for you to try on our website, and we are always adding new ideas and tips. If you feel like you need a little bit more help with getting your culinary year started, then come along to one of our cooking classes.
