Edible Flower Cakes

Something to celebrate? Would you like to buy a beautiful cake from The Edible Flower, made to order for your lockdown mini-party? We are now selling small celebration cakes decorated with pressed and fresh edible flowers and leaves.

Every year we grow lots of beautiful flowers to decorate salads, desserts, cakes and canapes for our supper clubs, workshops and catering events. This year, along with lockdown, the Spring flowers came and we had no one to share them with. There is only so many flowers two people and two babies can eat! So we started experimenting with pressing our flowers as a way to preserve their beauty and longevity. We are now using these lovely pressed flowers to decorate some delicious cakes.

What size are the cakes?

Our edible flower cakes are 6″ (15cm) in diameter and about 5″ (12cm) tall. They consist of four layers of cake sandwiched together with homemade jam and buttercream. The cakes cut into 12 very large slices or 16 slightly more modest slices, the perfect size for a lockdown celebration (6 slices each… Ha ha!).

How are the cakes decorated?

The cakes are decorated with a mixture of wild and cultivated edible flowers and leaves from our organic, no-dig kitchen garden just outside Saintfield, Co. Down that are hand-picked and pressed by us.

The cakes are completely iced in buttercream. The sides of the cake are decorated with pressed flowers & leaves and the top of the cake is decorated with fresh flowers, leaves and mini meringues.

Can I eat the flowers on my cake?

Yes. All the flowers and leaves used to decorate your cake are edible and food safe. However, some of the larger stalks and leaves might not be that palatable so we recommend that you remove larger stems before eating.

How long will the cake last?

We recommend that you pick up or have your cake delivered on the day you plan to serve it. We use fresh and pressed flowers to decorate the cake and they will be at their best on the day that is has been decorated. If you have leftover cake then it will keep for a few days in a tupperware container in a cool place.

What about dietary requirements?

Our cakes contain gluten (wheat), milk & eggs. They are veggie friendly. We are not currently offering vegan or gluten free cakes.

If you have any other allergies or dietary requirements please make sure you let us know when you are ordering your cake.

How much do the cakes cost?

Our edible flower cakes cost £55 per cake for collection from our house just outside Saintfield. Delivery can be arranged (subject to availability) but it costs a bit extra and depends on how far away you are.
