Join us at Indie Fude in Comber for a feast of delicacies from the South Western provinces of China, Sichuan and the Yunnan on Friday 21 & Saturday 22 July. We spent a month exploring Western China a few years ago on the trail of George Forrest, Jo’s Great Great Uncle and a renowned Scottish Plant Hunter. George Forrest made seven separate trips out to the region and whilst dicing with death and having adventures full of derring-do he ‘discovered’, categorised and named many new flowers and plants for Western Botany.
We were apprehensive about a trip to this less visited part of China. Would we be able to communicate? Would we find anything delicious to eat? The answer to the first question was a resounding NO, but to the second an overwhelming YES. We fell in love with the spicy, slippery, aromatic food of this region, redolent with numbing Sichuan Pepper, spicy dried chilli and the allium bite of spring onion. Fuschia Dunlop writes beautifully about Sichuan food and we are using several of her recipes as well as a few of our own for this supper club. Come and discover this less cuisine with us.
