The year, we’re delighted to be participating in the annual tree planting day for the Trees on the Land initiative – a wonderful project that helps landowners to establish young, native trees across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
On Saturday 15th February we’ll be planting 200 native trees in our fields, in an area that will eventually become part of our Edible Forest. On the same day, many thousands of trees will be planted across the whole of the island of Ireland by landowners, community groups, smallholders and farmers as part of the scheme.
We’re looking for a team of intrepid volunteers to help us plant the trees (whatever the weather!). We’ll start the day with a hot drink and a quick chat about our long terms plans for the Edible Forest and of course some instructions on how to plant a tree. We’ll then head out into the fields to do a few hours of planting, before we come back inside for a hearty and simple late lunch.
In exchange for your tree planting labour and enthusiasm, you will get an (almost free) lunch and hopefully learn something new. Tickets are £5 per person to cover some of the ingredients costs.
The time: from 10am to approximately 4pm on Saturday 15 February
The place: The Edible Flower, 121 Middle Road, Saintfield, Co. Down, BT24 7LS. We’ll mostly be working outside, so come wrapped up and with wet weather gear if the forecast is bad. Bring a pair of gardening gloves and a shovel if you have them.
The refreshments: Tea or coffee on arrival, then a late lunch and cake after planting (at about 3pm). Lunch and snacks will be veggie friendly but please let us know when booking if you are vegetarian or have any other dietary requirements.
The cost: £5 per person (plus a 50p booking fee). This is to cover the cost of lunch ingredients.
Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel your booking, for whatever reason, please let us know as soon as possible. For full details of our cancellation policy please click here.
Check out more about Trees on the Land on their website – and I would encourage you to apply for some trees next year if you have any plans to establish some tree cover near you.
