ONLINE RETREAT: YOGA & COOKING WITH MOURNE YOGA – SUNDAY 7 JUNE 2020

  • The Edible Flower (map)

Join us online on Sunday 7 June from 10am – 2.30pm, when we’ll be teaming up with our friends at Mourne Yoga for a half-day of online workshops and cook-a-long fun!

We’ll start with a morning yoga session led by Lorna from Mourne Yoga where you’ll learn what the core and it’s supporting structures are really about (and it’s definitely not about doing 8,000 crunches before holding plank indefinitely – thankfully!), after which we’ll take the reins to guide you through a 90 minute virtual cooking class. We’ll all prepare a delicious, veggie-focused (but not too complicated) Mediterranean inspired two-course lunch and then enjoy it together from the comfort of our own homes!

Sound good so far? Read on for the all the details…

10am – 12 noon: Beyond Abs of Steel with Mourne Yoga

The core is quite literally the very centre of our being but often our focus and obsession with its physicality is misplaced and not massively beneficial. The core is entangled deep in our cultural psyche where from an early age we’re encouraged to strive for the socially acceptable form of a strong, flat, six-pack. Quite over-rated.

Don’t get me wrong, a strong core helps to integrate our system, providing stability, balance and an ease of movement that many of us would benefit from. But this doesn’t mean that we need to crunch our way to abs of steel.

The reality is that our core encompasses far more than our abs (the six-pack). It is the container that protects some of our most important organs, while allowing our upper and lower limbs to move with a semblance of control. And we regularly forget to include our hip flexors, pelvic floor, low / mid back and diaphragm into the mix; not to mention the other supporting structures, especially our hips.

This yoga workshop will look in more detail at the structure of the core as a whole while we move through an evenly paced practice to help us find a level of balanced strength and flexibility within it and its supporting cast to improve our stability and functional movement over time.

(And then you’ll get to fill the container with some amazing grub!)

12 noon – 12:15pm: Tea break

12:15pm – 1:45pm: Cook a Mediterranean Lunch with The Edible Flower

Put on your apron and get ready to cook your way to a tasty Mediterranean lunch packed with lots of seasonal fruit & vegetables. Think unctuous aubergine, zingy herbs, creamy tahini, colourful radishes and a gorgeous pudding to finish.

We’ll be cooking:
Roasted Aubergine Fritters with Tahini & Lemon Sauce, Herby Grains and a Chopped Salad with Pomegranate & Radishes

Followed by:
Eton Mess with Summer Berries, Rose & Mini Meringues

We’re encouraging everyone to cook-a-long during the class, an ingredients and equipment list as well as the recipes will be sent to all participants in advance. We know it is tricky to get some ingredients at the moment so wherever possible we’ll suggest alternatives. A little bit of advance prep will be required the night before, but nothing too taxing. The menu is completely vegetarian, if you are vegan or have any other dietary requirements please let us know when you book and we’ll suggest suitable alternatives in the recipe pack.
