BRUNCH IN THE BYRE @ THE EDIBLE FLOWER – 26 MAY 2019

Join us for the first in a series of Summer Sunday brunches in the old cow byre at our farmhouse in Saintfield. Starting at 12.30pm, come along to enjoy delicious bruncheon dishes (some from the wood-fired pizza oven), endless tea & coffee and a glass of something with a wee bit of a kick to get you started.

Once upon a time when we first started hosting supper clubs from our little terraced house in East London we almost always used to have them on a Sunday afternoon, Initially this was for practical reasons – we both worked full time and I (Erin) was the chef at a cafe so often also had to work on Saturdays. The only feasible day we could host an event was Sunday to ensure we had enough time to prepare all the food and make sure the house was spick and span. We reasoned that by Sunday evening most people are in back to work mode (getting the washing done, ensuring the kids have done all their homework, binge-watching the latest Netflix blockbuster – to ensure you are up to date for TV chats around the kettle at work…). So we decided to host Sunday afternoon events, and our guests loved them. We postponed the inevitable Sunday evening blues with delicious food, a few drinks, and chats with old and new friends around the communal dining room table.

Recently Jo and I had a yearning for these ‘lazy’ (for the guests not us!) Sunday afternoon events, and we wanted to combine this with our love of cooking delicious brunch dishes.

The menu for this first Brunch in the Byre is inspired by some of our Mediterranean and Middle Eastern favourites, as well as what’s best from the kitchen garden at the end of May. Come along.

Green Shakshuka (Baked Eggs with Garden Greens)

Sourdough Toasts topped with Carrot, Cardamom & Rosewater Jam & Ricotta
Shirazi-style Slaw
Herby Tabbouleh with Asparagus & Preserved Lemon Yoghurt
Houmous with Chilli & Garlic
Borekitas with Scullery Made Black Pudding, Cabbage & Cumin
Wood-Fired Flatbreads
Tea, Coffee & Mint Tea

To Finish:

Tunisian Orange Cake, Bay Ice Cream & Pistachio Brittle

The drinks: This event is BYO. If you would a little tipple with your Sunday brunch please bring it along.

The cost: £30 per person (plus a £1 booking fee) for a 3-course brunch menu plus a few extras.

Dietary Requirements: This menu is absolutely suitable for vegetarian guests (but please let us know if you require the veggie option when booking). For all other dietary requirements just let us know when you book and we’ll try our absolute best to accommodate you.
