Dumpling Making Evenings: Island Arts Centre, Lisburn October & November 2024

Dumplings are one of my absolute favourite comfort foods, a perfect little parcel of deliciousness ideal for dark and chilly Winter evenings.

I’ve been lucky enough to eat dumplings, steamed, boiled and fried in all sorts of lovely places – from Lijiang, Yunnan in South West China, to the streets of George Town, Penang and delicious varenyky with Olia Hercules in the Ukraine.

This Autumn I’m hosting two delicious dumpling making evenings at the Island Arts Centre in Lisburn.

Make Classic Dim Sum Dumplings, Thursday 17th October 2024, 7-9.30pm

Learn how to make some of the most popular, classic steamed dim sum dumplings including har gow (classic prawn dim sum with its delightfully translucent wrapper), sui mai (pork & prawn) and chiu chow (pumpkin & mushroom). We’ll be making some with dough from scratch, and some with shop bought dumpling wrappers. After a demo everyone will make their own dumplings and then we’ll sit down at the end of the evening to eat them altogether.

Make potsticker and gyoza dumplings, Thursday 14th November 2024, 7-9.30pm

Learn how easy it is to make dumpling dough (just two ingredients) and three delicious seasonal fillings (squash & sesame, pork & scallion and classic vegetable). We’ll make this simple wheat dough from scratch, then practice different folding techniques, from pleated crescents to moneybags and rope edges. You will make and fill their own dumplings. We’ll steam some of them and I’ll show you how to ‘potsticker’ some too – then we get to eat them all together!

For both workshops recipes for all the dumplings we cover will be sent out via email afterwards so you can recreate your dumplings at home. Unfortunately, this dumpling evening isn’t suitable for people who can’t eat gluten. For all other dietary requirements just let us know when you book and we’ll try our best to accommodate you.
